FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do we get there?

Commercial Road is one street parallel to the main street of Alstonville. Follow the blue P for Parking signs to the public car park in Commercial Road and we are right next door. If you are coming from Ballina, turn right and then first left. If you are coming from Lismore, turn left and then first right. Park in the car park and come through the side entrance and up the ramp. Disabled parking is available at the rear of the building. Here is a link to a map.

Are you an Optometrist?

No. Dr Malatt is a medical doctor with further training as a specialist surgeon.

An optometrist is not a medical doctor or a surgeon.

Can you laser my eyes so I don't have to wear glasses?

No. Anne does not perform cosmetic surgery, including cosmetic laser surgery.

Do you bulk bill?

While we don't bulk bill routinely, we do bulk bill children and many of the tests we do. Anne's costs are very reasonable when you consider the years she has spent training and the premises, equipment and staff she provides to serve you. The running costs of the practice are very high, and bulk-billing would not cover these costs, which means we would go out of business. Medicare rebates have in no way kept up with the cost of living and service provision, and this is something you may like to discuss with your local politicians.

Why do I need a referral?

We don't need a referral. The referral is for your benefit. With a referral, you can claim a rebate from Medicare for the service. Without a referral, you cannot. You are quite welcome to see the doctor without a referral, if you are happy to pay the full fee.

Are you open every weekday?

The clinic is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 am. Anne consults here on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and operates in Lismore on Wednesdays.
