Removal of Tumours and other Lesions
The skin around the eyes can develop small cancers, as can the skin anywhere on the body.
There are some specific problems in removing tumours in, on or near the eye and it is well to have specialist attention in this area.
Any new lump which is getting bigger or causing problems should be seen to by your doctor, who can refer you on if there are any concerns.
Depending on the specific nature of your problem, doctor may choose to observe the lesion for a short while, to bring you back for a biopsy of the lesion, or to arrange for your admission to hospital to have the lesion removed. Doctor will discuss the details of your problem and the best choice of treatment with you.
Surgery is performed in hospital as a day case procedure under local anaesthetic.
Doctor removes the lesion and sends it to pathology, then sews the wound closed with stitches. Sometimes a skin graft is required.
Antibiotic ointment is used on the cuts for a week.
Doctor sees you in the rooms a week later to remove the stitches and to review the pathology with you.
Doctor will discuss any further treatment that may be required at this appointment.
Please ask if you have any further questions.
